George IV first visited Ramsgate on the 25th September, 1821 and received a resounding welcome from the town’s population. He visited again that year on November 8th and  then on November 27th he commanded Lord Sidmouth to inform Ramsgate that the harbour was to be proclaimed a Royal Harbour. Ramsgate harbour remains  to this day the only Royal Harbour in the UK.

To mark the 200 years of holding this prestigious appointment, September 2021 will see various activities to celebrate our Royal status. Our aim is to encourage inclusion of the wider community of Ramsgate and promote our town to people from further afield. We aim to inform, educate and entertain all age groups of local people and attract visitors to share our heritage and the legacy of our magnificent unique Royal Harbour.

A message from the organisers of the

Royal Harbour of Ramsgate 200 Anniversary Festival

Everyone involved in next year’s planned event is sending heartfelt wishes to all in our community, with the hope that you keep well and safe during the unprecedented situation in which we now find ourselves.

As everyone continues to be under various lockdown/restricted situations, we are quietly working from home to try and get George bronzed and put in to his final position overlooking our Harbour. In due course the committee will meet and discuss how we can support the town of Ramsgate and our community and look at possible ways to celebrate the important Anniversary of our Royal Harbour.
